Hot Cross Bun Sweet French Toast ~ Serves 1
1 hot cross bun cut in half – preferably stale
Dash of cream or milk
Sugar and cinnamon for dusting
Quality frying pan
1. Depending on how luxurious (ie. full of calories) you want this treat to be, melt a little knob of butter or of using a quality pan, you get cook this with no butter or oil. I am using the Ozeri non-stick ceramic green-earth frying pan (available on Amazon) – I just like butter!
2. In a bowl or lipped plate, whisk the egg with cream, buttermilk or milk. Around the same volume as the egg. The great thing with this recipe is that you are in charge, and you can make it to your taste.
3. Dip sliced bun in the mixture, and give it a couple of minutes to really soak in. Then add the soaked slices of bun to the pre-heated pan. Cook on a medium heat for 1-2 minutes till golden brown. Then flip over and cook the other side.
4. When toasted and golden, serve on a plate with your preferred topping. I used cinnamon and sugar, but you can go with whatever it to your taste.
Eat while still warm. Perfect for a Easter breakfast treat or a sumptuous pudding.
