How to have a great night with friends

I don’t know about you, but an evening in with friends in our house is not deserving of the term ‘dinner party’.  We are relaxed, we are comfy.  If you want to turn up in shorts and flip flops, more power too you.  If you want to wear a cocktail dress that’s great too.  Hubs looks particularly ravishing in green, it brings out the hazel in his eyes.  But even with a super laid back gathering of friends, there is plenty you can do to have your evening run smoothly.  Here are some of my top tips: 1. If you’re […]

Weight loss with Diet Chef: week 1

Today is weigh in day for me, and after a week of eating surprisingly delicious Diet Chef meals my weight loss for week 1 is: On the Diet Chef plan, you can expect to lose 1-2lb per week so this was a really great surprise. At my first weigh in, before I started the plan, I was quite thrilled to see I had only gained 3lb since my last weight loss effort in June 2014.  I lost over a stone with Lighter Life Fast, so a loss of 4.4lb means I’m back on track.  I’m also looking for a more […]

Staying In is the new Going Out: How to Save Money and Have a Great Night Out

When you leave your 20’s behind (which I did some time ago), you have more responsibilities, less money, but still an innate desire to socialise.  To spend time with friends and unwind from a busy week.  To celebrate, to commiserate, just to be together.  Even for a non-drinker, a night out at the pub can really hurt the purse strings.  It was that, in part, that prompted myself and J to host Halloween at home.  We had a houseful of friends who were thoroughly fed, watered and entertained.  Here’s a glimpse of how our Halloween bash played out. We went […]

Lighter life fast: the 5:2 diet with #lighterlifefast – my weight loss journey starts here #tryfast

Well, not quite here – officially (and actually) I started on Monday the 16th of June when I returned from my holiday (which I shall also be posting about shortly).  Two years + of takeaways and meals out have taken their toll on my waistline, and I know I would have gained on holiday as I ate indiscriminately (and plentifully) – as most of us do on holiday I think.       I’ve had limited success with weight loss since (and a little before) being diagnosed with my personal plethora of health problems, most of which mean I am […]

Guest post: healthy eating chilli recipe from bexx at steak and barbells

I was so thrilled when Bexx from Steak and Barbells  volunteered to guest post for me.  In some ways our blogs couldn’t be more different.  Bexx is a super fit gym bunny and I am a wheelchair bound chubster.  Thank heavens for food, a place where we can all come together in a love of good home cooked food.  My diet started yesterday, and my healthy eating repertoire will most definitely include this yummy chilli recipe!  Image source Chilli Recipe I love cooking and getting creative in the kitchen, but I don’t always have the time to spend hours doing […]

The Road Less Travelled: Places to Go People to See – Things to Do In Manchester

Since I started blogging, I’ve been doing some serious travelling.  Actually, it’s not been serious at all, it’s been quite fun, but there has been alot of it.  Previously a home-bird, I’ve found I actually enjoy exploring new places, and while you won’t find me climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, I have been broadening my horizons by visiting some great places round the UK. As a southerner born and bred, the north of England holds some mystique for me.  I’ve been as far as Blackpool, stopping in Birmingham on the way and I loved it.  A change is as good as a rest […]
